Jersey Blues Win Battle Against Camden; Baseball Advances To Final Four

Flemington, NJ - The Jersey Blues defeated the Cougars of Camden County College in the best of three series in the first round of the Region XIX tournament.

In game one, Brookdale fell 5-3 after they rallied to tie the game 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sophomore left-handed pitcher Justin Fall pitched for 7.2 innings and tallied 10 strikeouts.

Sophomore catcher Joshua Jackson put the Blues on the scoreboard with a single home run in the bottom of the fourth while freshman second baseman Matt Granato, freshman shortstop Keith Apostolos and Jackson each added RBI's.

In game two, the team battled for the 7-5 victory to secure game three of the series. Sophomore lefty Eric Heatter tossed for 6.2 innings and notched six strikeouts. Sophomore left-handed pitcher Jordan Winston and freshman left-handed pitcher Dylan Taliaferro also added innings to finish the contest.

Freshmen outfielders TJ Scuderi and Bradley Brush each contributed one double while Apostolos ripped one home run. Granata continued to produce and knocked in three runs.

After a three-day rain delay, the series resumed on Wednesday, May 15th at Diamond Nation. The game was close for the first few innings before Brookdale swung away for the 14-3 win.

Taliaferro returned to the mound and hurled heat for six innings and struck out seven Cougar batters. Apostolos launched the grand slam to grab the win while Scuderi tallied one home run, three RBI's and one stolen base. Sophomore outfielder Connor Kolich went 2-3 at the plate. Kolich scored two runs, knocked in three runs and collected one double. Sophomore infielder Ryan Ruziecki contributed two RBI's and one stolen base.

With the 2-1 series victory, Brookdale advances to the final four of the Region XIX tournament hosted at Cumberland County College. The team will next face the Dukes of Cumberland County College for a single nine-inning match-up on Friday, May 17th at 11am. Brookdale will then travel to Rowan College at Gloucester County for game two.
