Bio
Katie Amundson was named Director of Athletics and Recreation in October 2018. Prior to her appointment, she served the department for six years as Assistant Director of Athletics & Recreation and three years as Athletic Coordinator. Beginning in 2011, Amundson was also the head coach of the women’s soccer program, leading the team through her final full season in 2019 before stepping down in January 2021.
Amundson holds numerous leadership roles within the NJCAA, Region 19, and the Garden State Athletic Conference. From 2019–2021, she served as GSAC Vice President, later advancing to GSAC President—a role she held through 2023. In 2021, she transitioned from Region 19 Women’s Assistant Director to the Region 19 Women’s Director, a position she has held since 2022. In 2023, she was selected as the NJCAA Board of Regents representative for Region 19, a role in which she continues to serve.
A two-sport student-athlete and 2007 Brookdale graduate, Amundson began her coaching career as an assistant with the women’s soccer team before being promoted to head coach. She also began working with Brookdale’s summer sports camps in 2006.
As an undergraduate, Amundson excelled both academically and athletically. A defender on the pitch, she earned First Team All-Region and First Team All-GSAC honors and still holds the program record for most headers scored in a season. She captained the 2006 Region 19 champion women’s soccer team and was also a starter on the 2006–07 Region 19 champion women’s basketball team. Amundson was named an Academic All-American and earned the prestigious 2006 NAGWS Award.
In 2009, she graduated from Ramapo College with a Bachelor’s degree in History, serving as captain of the women’s soccer team her senior year. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree from Rutgers University in 2016.
As head coach, Amundson led the Jersey Blues women’s soccer program to historic success. In 2013, she guided the team to its first-ever national championship. The program repeated in 2014 and again in 2015, completing an unprecedented three-peat and becoming the first NJCAA Division III women’s soccer team to achieve such a milestone. Amundson was named Regional Coach of the Year in 2013, 2014, and 2015. In 2015, she earned the NISOA-NSCAA Intercollegiate Merit Award for NJCAA coaches and was honored as the NSCAA National Coach of the Year.
On October 21, 2017, she secured her 100th career victory with a win over Ocean County College in the opening round of the Region XIX Tournament. In 2019, the Jersey Blues women’s soccer coaching staff was recognized as the United Soccer Coaches Regional Staff of the Year.
Amundson’s impact has also been felt administratively. In 2022, she received Brookdale’s Outstanding Administrator Award and was named Region 19’s Ron Case Athletic Director of the Year. In 2024, she was honored with the NJCAA Region 19 Augie Eosso Award—the region’s highest distinction for exemplary service and dedication.
Amundson currently resides in Barnegat, New Jersey with her husband and two children.
