Brookdale's Season Comes To An End At Baseball World Series
Auburn, NY - The Brookdale Community College's baseball season came to an end following their tough loss against the #4 seeded Dallas College Richland Thunder Ducks in the NJCAA DIII World Series, 16-5.
Auburn, NY - The Brookdale Community College's baseball season came to an end following their tough loss against the #4 seeded Dallas College Richland Thunder Ducks in the NJCAA DIII World Series, 16-5.
"Dallas College Richland's baseball team coasted to a 16-5 six-inning run-rule victory over Brookdale Community College at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III World Series Monday.
The Thunderducks (37-23) move on to play SUNY Niagra (51-1) at 2:30 p.m. CT Tuesday, while the Brookdale Jersey Blues head home with a 41-11 final record.
Richland jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings. Bobby Gutierrez's run-scoring triple down the right field line brought home Barrett Howard to make it 3-0 in the second. Jhosnel Ruiz's sacrifice fly scored Gutierrez, and Trey Smith stole home to build the five-run lead.
After Brookdale (41-11) picked up a run in the bottom of the third, the Thunderducks answered with one of their own in the fourth on Jordan Owns' RBI single to right. The Jersey Blues answered with three runs on four hits in the bottom half of the inning and another in the fifth to pull within a run.
But Richland exploded for 10 runs in the sixth on five hits, an error, two hit batsmen, two walks and a groundout. Lukas Boone and Connor Haelzle were both hit by pitches with the bases loaded. Caleb Solis and Gutierrez each drew an RBI walk. Sean Amarante had an infield single to drive in a run. Howard reached on an error to bring home Amarante. Haelzle scored on a groundout.
Richland reliever Jaylen Cream kept the Jersey Blues off the board in their final at-bat to seal the victory.
Thunderducks starter Mason Posey was credited with the win after going three 2/3 innings, allowing four runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits and two walks. He had five strikeouts. Cream worked the final two 1/3 innings, giving up a run on three hits and a walk, while fanning three.
Owns went 3-for-3 with a double, two walks two RBI and three stolen bases. Ruiz was 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBI. Amarante went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Gutierrez was 1-for-3 with two walks, two RBI and a stolen base.
Shane Andrus was 3-for-3 with two RBI for Brookdale. Richard Kernan went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Casey Gardiner went 2-for-2.
