Lincroft, NJ — In a high-scoring battle fueled by explosive offense, the Brookdale Community College baseball team powered past the Mercer County Community College Mustangs, 16-12, to improve to 13-7 on the season.
The Jersey Blues showcased their depth at the plate, delivering clutch hits and extra-base power throughout the contest. Sophomore third baseman Anthony Pizzuti led the charge with a strong 2-for-3 performance, including a double and a triple, driving in four runs to pace the offense. Freshman catcher LJ Santiago and freshman shortstop Dawson Smail each launched home runs, accounting for three RBI apiece and providing key momentum swings for Brookdale. Freshman center fielder Ray Mulhern contributed with a solid 2-for-4 outing, adding two RBI, while sophomore designated hitter Gary Perone III chipped in with an RBI hit to keep the pressure on the Mustangs' pitching staff.
On the mound, sophomore Vinny Zaffarese delivered a steady performance, earning his second win of the season. Zaffarese worked 5.0 innings, striking out six batters while navigating through the high-powered matchup.
The Jersey Blues will look to carry that momentum on the road as they travel to Mays Landing, NJ to face the Atlantic Cape Community College Buccaneers on Tuesday, March 31st, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00pm.
