Bethlehem, PA - The Brookdale women's basketball team delivered one of its most complete performances of the season, defeating the Northampton Community College Spartans 73-70 on the road in Bethlehem, PA, as the Jersey Blues continue their determined push toward postseason play.
From the opening tip, Brookdale set the tone with relentless defensive pressure and efficient scoring. Freshman guard Laila Hagan erupted for 25 points while adding five steals, igniting both ends of the floor with her speed and confidence. Fellow freshman guard Leomary Diaz-Merino matched that intensity with 24 points, five steals, and four assists in a stellar all-around effort. Diaz-Merino was especially sharp at the charity stripe, converting 11 of her 12 free throw attempts to keep momentum firmly in Brookdale's favor.
The defensive presence of the Jersey Blues proved overwhelming for the Spartans. Sophomore guard Taylor Suckey contributed 11 points and an impressive six steals, disrupting Northampton's offensive rhythm throughout the contest. Sophomore guard Jocelyn Jackson added 11 points of her own, providing steady scoring support as Brookdale maintained control down the stretch.
Now sitting at 12-11, Brookdale is building momentum at the right time of the season. With postseason aspirations within reach, the Jersey Blues will look to replicate their success when they host Northampton once again in the Robert J. Collins Arena on Monday, February 16th at 6:00pm.
